As 2019 draws to a close, it is a good time to look back at all that has happened in 2019 and look forward to what I hope will be a very successful and enjoyable 2020.
It has been an exciting year in West Wales, with a change in leadership, a spectacular Installation meeting with the Pro Grand Master Presiding and new Brethren taking on key roles within the Province. I would like to pay tribute to my two Deputies, VW Bro Lionel Hughes and E Comp David Rayson. for being so generous with their support and the benefit of their experience. I am very fortunate to have two such distinguished freemasons keeping me on the straight and narrow. I thank you all for your friendship, help and guidance during my transitional year. All your messages of support were greatly appreciated, and I thank you for the very kind way I have been received around the Province since the start of the season. If I haven’t made it to your lodge yet, don’t worry, I will be with you as soon as I can.
I know that the new Assistant Provincial Grand Master, W Bro Ryland James has been enjoying his new role as have the new Secretariat, W Bros Tony Trumper and Alun Littlejohns. W Bro Dirk den-Hartog has got his feet firmly under the table as the new Provincial Grand Charity Steward. On their behalf I thank you for supporting them in their new roles and I thank the whole team for all their hard work too.
One of the highlights of the year was the Centenary meeting of St Elli Lodge and we also presented many long service certificates to distinguished brethren and companions. Also, 2019 saw the amalgamation of Cleddau and Cambrian Lodges into a single unit under the name of Cambrian Lodge. Although this was sad in some ways, the new lodge is much stronger and the future of freemasonry in Haverfordwest is secured for the foreseeable future. There will be a second amalgamation in 2020 when Kemes and Strumble Lodges combine to form the “new” Strumble Lodge. The Closing / Amalgamation meeting will be held on Friday 17th January 2020 with the Provincial Team in attendance. I am looking forward to presiding at the meeting, especially as I didn’t see what happened at the Cleddau / Cambrian meeting because I was acting as Tyler!! I hope as many of you as possible attend the meeting to support the new lodge.
Looking forward to 2020, the biggest event of the year will be the launch of the next Festival in aid of The Masonic Charitable Foundation. The Festival will run until 2026 and full details will be published in the New Year. I also look forward to consecrating our new Welsh Language Lodge and a new lodge for all our Bikers. Our key themes of Recruitment, Retention, Re-engagement and the Royal Arch will continue. Thanks to your hard work we are already beginning to see progress in all these areas. I trust the winter workshops which are being run by W Bros Elfan Bell and Chris Harding will further galvanise all lodges to make more changes to further improve on all these areas.
I wish you and your families a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous and peaceful New Year and I hope to see many of you over the Festive Season. I have already had my first turkey dinner and I am looking forward to many more. If I don’t see you in December, I look forward to seeing you early in 2020.
Very best wishes,
Provincial Grand Master &
