Dear Bro. Secretary / Comp. Scribe E,
I have received an urgent request from the Secretary/Treasurer of the Masonic Charities Association, W Bro. Ryland James, regarding any cheques that are issued in favour of the 2015 Festival.
Apparently there have been some problems with the bank regarding the exact wording of the Payee of the cheque.
W Bro Ryland has asked that, to make things easier, all future cheques are made out to the “Grand Charity”. This allows him to pay it directly into the relief chest (in our name). This saves him time and is an easier name to remember.
He has also asked me to point out that banks are getting much stricter about alterations. Apparently any alteration must be signed (not just initialled) by the authorised signatories.
Please pass this message on to your Treasurer and any other brother who is likely to make a contribution either directly or on behalf of your lodge. To those brethren making personal donations that can be “gift aided” please make sure to include a gift aid declaration or insert it into a gift aid envelope and include these with your cheques. All such gift aid communications must have the donor's full name, house name or number and postcode as a minimum.
Yours sincerely and fraternally
David J Elsley
