Old Priory Invasion Claims Travelling Gavel

The Cleddau Lodge meeting on Wednesday 17th December 2014 was the scene of a friendly invasion by the Brethren of Old Priory Lodge. Their aim was simple, to be the first lodge to claim the West Wales Travelling Gavel at a regular lodge meeting. The Old Priory contingent was led by their new Worshipful Master, W Bro Gary Thomas, ably assisted by W Bro’s John Everett, Steve McGarvie, Bernard Beavan, Neil Johnson and Stuart Harris.

The Cleddau Lodge meeting featured a presentation from the Provincial Grand Orator, W Bro Elfan Bell. The Provincial Grand Master was also in attendance at his Mother Lodge and he presented a 60 year long service certificate to W Bro Osmond Shearn who served Cleddau Lodge as Master as long ago as 1966!

The Festive Board was held at Haverfordwest Cricket Club, where Bro John Wilkinson, Cleddau’s Senior Warden presented the Travelling Gavel to W Bro Gary Thomas, WM of Old Priory Lodge (left in the photo above).

W Bro Gary said:

“The Brethren of Old Priory Lodge are delighted to receive the Travelling Gavel and we look forward to a lively and enjoyable evening at our next regular meeting on Tuesday 20th January 2015, where we hope there will be a number of lodges trying to stake their claim for the gavel.”

Tribute must also be paid to the Master, Wardens and Brethren of Cambrian Lodge who were also very well represented at the meeting, but who were unable to lay claim to the gavel as they meet in the same building as Cleddau Lodge.
